$600 million pledged to support the humanitarian situation in Ethiopia while Fano Amhara activists protest during a High-level Pledging Event at the United Nations in Geneva

The High-level Pledging Event convened on the 16th of April 2024 at the United Nations in Geneva, co-hosted by the Government of Ethiopia, the Government of the United Kingdom and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) addressed the pressing humanitarian situation unfolding in Ethiopia to deliver life-saving assistance to about 15 million people. Funding requirement are at $3.2 billion. During the conference, participating Member States pledged more than $600 million to support the humanitarian situation.

Amhara Fano Activists interrupted the Pledging Event at least four times expressing their protest against the Ethiopian Government which they accuse of committing genocide against the Amhara People in Ethiopia

The Ethiopian Government has issued a statement in Amharic through its Permanent Mission in Geneva affirming that political agenda have no place in such pledging event for humanitarian purposes.
