Ethiopian Minister of Justice H.E. Gedion Timothewos met with United Nations Human Rights High Commissioner Micheline Bachelet and briefed her on the situation of human rights in Ethiopia. He also provided updates on the Ministerial Task Force activities on the sidelines of the 49th Regular Session of the UN Human Rights Council.
On the sidelines of the #HRC49 H.E. Gideon Timothewos briefed #EU Permanent Representatives in Geneva on the human rights situation in Ethiopia and recent developments.
Meanwhile, the President of Human Rights Council appointed members of investigative body to serve as the three members of the International Commission of Human Rights Experts on Ethiopia.
It is to be recalled that Ambassador Zenebe Kebede had expressed Ethiopian Government’s complete rejection of Resolution A/HRC/S-33/L.1 to establish an International Commission of Human Rights Experts to investigate allegations of violations in Ethiopia.
In January 2021, a Joint Open Letter initiated by the Network of Ethiopians in Geneva for Action Taskforce (NEGAT) was sent to the High Commissioner for Human Rights and several rallies by Ethiopians and Eritreans held in Geneva calling on the High Commissioner to bring its institutional capacity and work collaboratively with the Government of Ethiopia and the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission on human rights.
